Christmas Classics 2025

Christmas Classics 2025

Juniper Books is a design agency specializing in luxury book sets and custom curation. This limited edition reimagines classic holiday motifs with color and flair.

During my internship, I had the honor of designing the 2025 Limited Edition Christmas Classics Set. Follow my process from early research to final product.

Research

To begin the design process, I conducted research on 2024’s holiday trends, and investigated ongoing style and decor trends (as of June 2025) that could be brought into the Christmas set design.

I researched holiday decor from brands that share Juniper Books’ audience (such as Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie), and created mood boards to distill key colors and motifs.

Based on trend research, I generated three possible design directions “maximalist”, “cute and cozy”, and “Nordic.”

Iteration 1: Early Concepts

Having received positive feedback on the moodboards, I moved ahead with creating 1-2 rough concepts for each design direction. While sketching these concepts, I also played with combining motifs across moodboards.

I presented these early concepts at the company’s weekly Product Development meeting, where I received positive responses to concepts 1 (far left) and 4 (far right). After some discussion, we picked concept 1 for its warm and friendly atmosphere.

Iteration 2: Compositions

Iterating on concept 1, I created a handful of more refined compositions, riffing on concept 1. Based on team feedback, I focused on filling the design with larger shapes that would be more legible across narrow spines.

My goal during this phase of the design process was to explore new ways of communicating the Christmas theme. I tried to use nontraditional motifs and colors that went beyond the conventions of the classic “red-and-green” Christmas look.

I presented these compositions in the next Product Development meeting, and was happy that the team agreed on version 1 (top left) as their favorite. For the next steps, I was advised to make the text bolder and create a digital mockup to check the design’s legibility when laid across the spines.

Iteration 3: Refinement

I rendered the design in finer detail and improved contrast by studying values. This stage of the design also involved creating mockups to test how the design would look when printed on the book spines.

Cover Art

Once the final spine art design was approved, I got to work on designing the book covers. I pulled colors and motifs from the spine art to create a cohesive look. For a personal touch, I “wrote” each book title by hand with elaborate ribbon illustrations.

InDesign Layout

When it was time to put the pieces together, I measured the dimensions of each book, and created print layouts using Adobe InDesign. Each book in the set is a slightly different size and thickness, so the design was carefully cropped to ensure a seamlessly continuous result.
