Studio Signs @

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts

Safety and instructional signage standardized across over 30 different studio spaces.

As a Graphic Design Intern at Tufts Technology Services, I redesigned signage across the SMFA while creating original branding, assets, and templates for future use.

The Problem

Because they are managed by a large team of independent Studio Managers, studio spaces across the SMFA have visually inconsistent signage. There is no official school branding for these signs, making it challenging for students to understand and follow studio guidelines.

Project Goal

✨ Research and document existing signage across the school’s 33 studios

✨ Establish formal branding and visual language for SMFA signs that conforms to the SMFA’s official style guide

✨ Create a system of pre-designed signs, templates, and reusable assets

✨ Incorporate diverse languages and writing systems to acknowledge and accommodate the school’s large international student population
