Background

For many individuals with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), executive functioning deficits present a significant obstacle to independent living.

What are the executive functions?

  • Task initiation

  • Sequencing

  • Planning

  • Organization

  • Time management

  • Generalization

How does EdF affect day-to-day tasks?

Difficulty with:

  • Conceptualizing and planning multi-step tasks

  • Knowing where to start on a task

  • Allotting appropriate amounts of time to tasks

  • Remembering regular routines

  • Applying knowledge gained in one context to similar, novel situations
